OpenAI’s September 16 announcement says Sponsored Agents can open a clearly labeled business conversation after an ad. It sits outside the original chat and ChatGPT’s independent answer. Testing is limited to select US advertisers; the release gives no general service-business access or results.
For a service business, that changes the preparation. An ad may need to do more than earn a click. The business-sponsored conversation has to answer useful questions accurately, know where its limits are and send an interested person to a clear next step.
Prepare the answers before the agent
Start with the questions people ask before they call or book. Service area, timing, the kind of work you take, what affects price and what somebody needs to prepare are common examples. Write the approved answer beside the page that supports it.
Some questions need judgment. A photo may be too limited for a quote. A requested time may depend on the live calendar. A service may require a staff member to check the address or scope. Mark those points clearly and route the person to the right page, form, call or booking step.
Keep one owner and one review date on this answer base. A change to opening hours, coverage or offer terms should reach the campaign material and the destination page together. Otherwise, the conversation can sound helpful while sending the person into a contradiction.
The release leaves knowledge setup, answer controls and conversation records undefined. An eligible business should get four answers before relying on the feature:
- Which business information can the Sponsored Agent use, and where is it managed?
- How quickly does an approved change reach the live conversation?
- Which question, conversation or click details can the advertiser retrieve?
- What campaign and source identifiers pass to the website or CRM?
Those are product questions, not reasons to assume a missing feature. The answers determine what the business can test and measure.
Campaign AI makes the brief more important
OpenAI also announced an Ads Manager plugin in ChatGPT for prompt-based campaign creation, updates and analysis. It can suggest copy and images from a page and objective. Advertisers can review and edit them before use. Optional text customization can adapt and translate existing copy.
That makes the source material more important. If the brief and page disagree about geography, availability or the offer, faster production carries the disagreement into more places. Clean the page, lock the claims that must stay exact and record who approves a change before using the campaign tools.
The tool can also suggest next actions. Treat each one as a question to check against the account and CRM records. A recommendation inside an advertising platform is not independent evidence that a change will improve the business result.
HubSpot is the service-business integration to watch
OpenAI names HubSpot and Shopify as its first CRM and ecommerce partners. Eligible HubSpot businesses can connect a ChatGPT Ads account, create ads, track performance and follow up with leads there. The US Shopify app uses Shopify Catalog; OpenAI says other ChatGPT Ads markets follow September 23.
The Shopify path is the retail part of this release. For a service business, the HubSpot handoff is more relevant. A business using another CRM should verify its path separately and ask exactly what conversation, lead and campaign data will transfer.
“Track performance” also needs a business definition. The ad account can show campaign activity. The CRM has to show which inquiry qualified, booked, bought or closed. Ask what record gets created, which original-source fields stay attached and whether the conversation itself is available for staff follow-up.
Decide by operating readiness
Access alone is a weak reason to test. The useful signal is whether the business can support the experience from the first question through the final outcome.
Check five things:
- The account and business category are confirmed as eligible.
- The answer base is approved, current and owned by somebody.
- Each important answer has a sensible website or human handoff.
- The CRM can preserve the source and record the outcome, using the data the platform actually provides.
- Somebody will review the questions people ask and fix outdated or missing answers.
Glory’s paid-advertising and CRM work can build the surrounding campaign, landing-page path, CRM stages and source reporting. Our CRM platform is not named in the release, so any direct connector would need its own verification.
The first useful question is whether the sponsored conversation can stay accurate and leave a trace when someone wants to continue. If that handoff survives a real test, the channel may deserve a measured campaign. Until then, the answer base and CRM path are the work.
