Google Business Profile posts are the updates, offers and events you publish on your profile. Once they’re live, they show on your profile in Google Search and Maps. Google’s content policy for photos, videos and posts now says: “To avoid fraud or abuse, we may remove posts with unverified contact information.” It names phone numbers, email addresses and social media handles.
In place of a typed number, the policy points you to the Call now button, which uses your verified Business Profile phone number. Google’s help page on creating and managing posts adds a warning of its own: a post with a phone number in the description might get rejected if that number can’t be verified as connected to the business it’s posted on. Neither page says when this changed, and Google doesn’t say how it checks.
According to Search Engine Roundtable, which reported the update on September 25, 2026, the earlier policy said phone numbers weren’t allowed in post content. The new wording is about unverified contact information, and it lists emails and social handles alongside phone numbers.
So if your posts end with “Call us at…”, a WhatsApp number, an email or an Instagram handle, that last line is the part that could get the post removed if Google can’t verify it. A post that’s removed or not approved doesn’t show on Search or Maps, so whatever you wrote doesn’t get seen there. The fix is mostly mechanical.
Check the status of your recent posts
Start with what’s already up. Open your Business Profile, select Posts, and look at the status next to each one. Live means the post is public and showing on Search and Maps. Pending means it isn’t showing yet, either because it’s still uploading or processing or because your profile isn’t verified. Not approved means it isn’t showing on Search or Maps, and the question mark next to that status shows which content policy Google says the post breaks.
Don’t stop at the ones marked Not approved. Live posts that still carry a typed phone number, email or handle are worth cleaning up too.
Take the contact details out of the text
This is the main fix. Delete the “Call us at…” line, the WhatsApp number, the email address and any @handle from the post description, then add the Call now button, the option Google’s policy points to. Offer posts come with their own View Offer button, so for those, just delete the typed details.
Our advice is to keep phone numbers out of post text altogether, even the main number that’s already on your profile. Google hasn’t explained how it verifies numbers, and the Call now button already uses your verified one.
Need a second number, like a separate scheduling line? Add it to the profile, not the post. Right after its phone number warning, Google’s posts help page points you to adding numbers to the profile. Google doesn’t say whether a number on the profile then counts as verified inside a post, so we’d still keep it out of the text.
Point the button at a page that matches the post
Everything else goes through the post’s button. For update posts, Google says the button should send people to a website where they can complete the action, like making a booking, ordering online or learning more. Pick the button that fits the goal: Call now if you want the phone to ring, or one that links to your booking or order page. Your email, WhatsApp and social links can live on that page instead of in the post.
When the button opens a page, that page should match the post. Say the post is about a fall furnace tune-up special (a made-up example). The button should open a page about that special, with the same offer and an easy way to book. Dropping people on your homepage makes them hunt for the thing they just tapped on. We build pages like that in our Landing Pages & Conversion work, on the client’s own domain and wired into their CRM.
Fix scheduled, repeating and shared posts
Google lets you schedule posts ahead of time and set them to repeat weekly, monthly or on a custom schedule. That’s handy, but a repeating post with an old “Call us at…” line brings that line back every time it shows up. Go through anything scheduled or set to repeat and fix the text the same way. Google’s help page puts Edit and Delete under the post’s More menu.
If you post the same update to several profiles at once, keep numbers out of that text too. Google’s warning is about a number being connected to the business the post appears on, and a shared post appears on several.
Then fix the source. If you, or whoever posts for you, copies from a saved template or a scheduling tool, take the contact line out there as well, or it’ll be back in next week’s post.
While you’re in there, make sure the phone number on your profile is the one you want calls to reach, since the Call now button uses it. Our earlier piece on Google’s Collected info view covers what Google gathers through that number and how to check the page your profile links to.
For today: pull up your last few posts, check each status, and take out any phone number, email or handle that’s typed into the text.
